Licensure
The State Board of Dietetic Practice was authorized in 1985 to protect the public by setting standards for the practice of dietetics in Maryland (Chapter 773, Acts of 1985). The Board licenses dietitians and nutritionists in Maryland. Licenses to practice dietetics must be renewed with the Board every two years. There are continuing education requirements that must be met to maintain Maryland licensure.
Dietitians and Nutritionists often work in hospitals, medical offices, and schools to provide proper nutrition to people in order to alleviate health problems and ensure balanced diets. There are about 1300 licensed Dietitians-Nutritionists in Maryland.
State Licensing Board meetings are open to the public. If you are interested in attending or wish to address an issue with the Licensing Board, please call 410-764-4733. You can also visit the Maryland Board of Dietetic Practice website for more information on meting dates and times.
