Helen D Mullan
Helen D. Mullan, MBA, RD, LD (1948-2013) was a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and MAND for over 40 years. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition at Hood College in Frederick, MD, and a dietetic internship at the Medical College of Virginia in 1971. After working several years as chief dietitian for Automatic Retailers of America (ARA; now Aramark) at St Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, VA, she spent the majority of her career at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, first as chief clinical dietitian for ARA, then as clinical nutrition manager, and most recently as assistant director of Food and Clinical Nutrition Services. Mullan was also an active volunteer, serving as the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) president in 1994-1995, and giving many years of service, including two terms as president, to the Maryland Dietetic Association (MDA), which honored her with the Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award in 1999.
Throughout her career, Helen had the opportunity to interact with and mentor many dietitians, dietetic technicians, and dietetics students. She was also active in MSPEN and MDA having served multiple roles, including terms as President, of both groups. Helen strongly supported learning at all levels – from new practitioners to experienced RDs.
Helen passed away on September 9, 2013.
