Topic: "Microgreens: Nutritional Powerhouse" at the Journal club, (MAND).

Speaker: Dr. Zhenlei Xiao
Dr. Xiao received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Food Science from China. She was just awarded her Ph.D. degree from the University of Maryland in the winter of 2013. In 2010, she started collaborative work in the Food Quality Laboratory under the supervision of Drs. Yaguang Luo and Gene Lester. Since then, Dr. Xiao has been working on a new specialty produce: microgreens. She is continuing her research studies on nutrient assessment, sensory evaluation, postharvest handling, and microbiological safety of microgreens. She presented her present work at AOAC 2013. There is a fee of $15/person; no monetary fee for students but they need to bring a can or carton of food for the Bowie/Washington Food Bank. Students need to show their student ID at the registration desk on the day of the event. Two CEUs are offered for attending one journal club.
