Sustainable Food Systems, Urban Farming,
and the Nutrition Professional
WHAT
Join your Maryland RD/RDN and DTR colleagues for a morning at Whitelock Community Farm, an urban farm located in Baltimore’s Reservoir Hill neighborhood. We will:
- Tour the farm and learn about the history of the space, the programs the farm is running, and urban farming in Baltimore.
- Participate in volunteer work at the farm.
- Discuss the benefits of eating locally, resources for connecting patients/clients with local foods, and the role of nutrition professionals in sustainable food systems and how to talk to patients/clients about these topics.
WHO
The program will be led by Marie Spiker, MSPH, RD, doctoral student at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and fellow at the Center for a Livable Future and Isabel Antreasian, Program Manager at Whitelock Community Farm.
