Food policy councils bring together diverse stakeholders into networks to reach community health goals, connect important sectors in the food system, improve all members’ understanding of each other’s work, and improve the food system for all. Being essential to the performance of food policy councils and the larger task of improving the health, food security, and sustainability of community food systems, this presentation will emphasize the concept of the “food system” and the practical application of “systems thinking.” RDNs who are making a difference in their communities by their involvement in their local and regional food policy councils will be highlighted, including RDNS in Maryland. There are 5 food policy councils in Maryland. +RDNs’ work on the newly formed Maryland Food System Resiliency Council (FSRC) will be highlighted plus an update on the FSRC.
